This-Or-That 10/19/2002

Today I'm going to try my hand at This-Or-That Tuesday!

1. Apples or pears? Apples, apples, apples! Granny Smith especially. (Because I had a Granny who was a Smith and because you can't beat the way they make your face all puckery!)
2. Oranges or grapefruit? Grapefruit, really cold from the fridge-- eat it like an orange-- peel it!
3. Broccoli or cauliflower? Oooh-- broccoli for sure. With a little hollandaise sauce my Mom makes. Yummy.....
4. Green beans or lima beans? Green beans definitely. When I think of lima beans I have flashbacks to school lunches with the horrible bland half-raw lime-green limas. Yeccch.
5. Winter or summer squash? Yellow summer squash like my Mom makes it with Velveeta and butter... mmmmm
6. Blueberries or strawberries? Strawberries-- blueberry skin stuck in one's teeth is not at all attractive.
7. Tomatoes or potatoes? Tomatoes from my Granddaddy's garden-- still warm from the sunshine and sliced with salt and pepper. .o(drool)o.
8. Peaches or plums? Chilton County (AL) peaches from a roadside stand, hands down.
9. Peas or carrots? Carrots. Lots of crunchy cathartic (sp?) goodness. Nice to imagine the baby carrot is the head of an obnoxious parent (my students', that is)
10. Asparagus or corn? Corn from Granddaddy's garden... in midsummer it grows ten feet high and waves in the breeze on his back acreage. Seems just as tall now as when I was five...

Mmmm... all this talk is making me hungry and kitty is insisting that I go to bed. Will be dreaming of fresh corn and tomatoes...

This-Or-That 11/5/2002

Time for today's edition of This-Or-That Tuesday!

1. Art or science museum? Science definitely, although living in the town with the Smithsonian it's a toss-up.
2. Play or watch sports? Watch the Alabama Crimson Tide football team (ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLL TIDE!!) and maybe the Redskins this season.
3. Zoo or circus? Zoo for sure-- seeing circus elephants pisses me off. At least in a major zoo they are well taken care of most of the time.
4. Theater: film or live on stage? Live on stage of course!
5. Rock concert or the symphony? As a symphony musician, I should probably stand up for my craft. but honestly, I don't even liek to sit through a symphony concert if I'm not playing. Now Aerosmith? Bring it ON.
6. Movies: see them in a theater or wait for DVD/VHS? Mostly wait. Except for Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings.
7. Board games or computer/video games? Board games-- socialization is a good thing considering how much time I pend in a 10'x10' room by myself (practicing).
8. Hobbies: crafts (art, cooking, home repair, etc) or collecting (coins, stamps, rocks, etc)? Crafts-- then you have Christmas presents for everyone!
9. Watch TV or read a book? Book. Imagination is an underrated commodity.
10. Eating out: fancy, white-tablecloth restaurant or casual dining? Clyde's Columbia with my friend Lucienne. Casual? If you consider the definition to be somewhere where you can talk about detailed sex stories with the bartender, then yes.

1. Stuffing: baked inside the turkey, or separately? Separately for sure... no salmonella here please!
2. Fresh or frozen turkey? Honestly, I don't think we've ever had a fresh one...
3. Cranberry sauce: jellied or whole berry? Jellied... mmmm
4. Stay home or visit friends/relatives? Go visit relatives!!!! Hubby's Mom does a monster bash every year. Every other year we go to see my grandma, who freakin rules in the kitchen. Woohoo!
5. Do you cook Thanksgiving dinner, or let someone else do it? Someone else!! I'm not old enough to assume that responsibility yet-- kind of a matriarch thing I guess.
6. Traditional turkey dinner, or an alternative (such as vegetarian)? Traditional!! Furkey (yes I said furkey) is just not a good thing. Ranks right up there with WHam.
7. Regular potatoes or sweet potatoes? Yams, even!!!
8. Homemade gravy, or the jarred stuff? Homemade!! My Nanny rule at that-- I learned from her.
9. What part of the turkey do you prefer...dark or white meat? White. Less fatty.
10. After dinner: football or Christmas movies? FOOTBALL. 'Nuff said.

Renovations

So here's the thing:

I've missed you guys.

I've had some pretty heavy things going on in my life this year, things which basically have changed the face of my entire existence in one way or another. And I haven't really felt comfortable talking about that here, in public, for anyone and everyone to read. More importantly, there are very good reasons why I can't and shouldn't.

And frankly, it's killing me.

Because if you're still reading this, then I've probably known you, or had you as a reader, for long enough that you're probably wondering what the hell happened to me.

Because if you're still reading this, you're probably one of the people whose opinions and love I value enough that I'm going to need your help in the next year.

Because frankly, I need an outlet more in-depth than Twitter and less personal than Facebook.

So here's the other thing:

On March 1st, this blog is getting a makeover. I'll be moving it to a new server, shaking up the layout a little, and converting it to a new CMS, though the site address won't change. The ranting and raving and silliness will stay the same, only there will be some things that I don't want to share with everybody, some things that I may need to share and say, but only within certain circles. I'm tired of keeping it all pent up and I've done that for long enough.

If you're still reading this blog, and you're been a loyal reader or friend or even a long-time lurker, email me at (sassy{at}sassyblonde{dot}net) with the title of this post in the subject line or comment on this post and request an access key. I'd love to have you in the circle.

Til then, I'll be cleaning house and doing some renovation, and I'll see you on March 1st.

UPDATE: So, snow and circumstances being what they've been around here, I'm going to have to ask you guys to wait around a little longer, which actually ends up being appropriate for a lot of reasons. I've gotten all your emails and comments, and if you can hang tight for a few more weeks, I'll have the next phase ready on April 1st.
