Interesting synchronicity (why does my spell check not recognize "synchronicity"?) between seeing the ear training video this morning, after seeing and commenting on this just yesterday:

In particular, because I didn't think of solfege (also not a spell-check friendly word) as a third "crutch" for getting to know the scale degrees. Not saying "crutch" in a negative sense, just that musicians ultimately need to make their relationship with the scale degrees so immediate that there are no numbers, letters, or solfege syllables running through their heads.
Why do I always post long comments when I'm running late for work and haven't showered yet? It's the timing of your posts, dammit. I apologize in advance for the inevitable typos, thinkos, and grammar-os.

suh-weet. give me muppets anyday, and i'm a happy camper. i could watch them all day long. hahaha.
but, in all seriousness, that ear-training thing from berkeley? impressive. that shows the difference between me and your world. i could never do that. ha! sure, i can pick up a bari and site read and sound like sophomore in high school after not playing for 15 years. but, to musically train your ears like that is mucho impressive, and a reason why i love to come and hear you, d, dan p, and all the rest play. it's incredible what you guys can do!
