YouTube RoundUp: The Falling Man

One additional entry today for the Friday YouTube RoundUp-- this is something I had been meaning to watch and post about for a while now, the documentary 9/11: The Falling Man, which an intrepid user has posted in its entirety on YouTube for everyone to see. I don't necessarily recommend everyone watch it, since it is more than a little creepy and really disturbed me at the outset with its retelling of the events preceding the fall of the towers, but I do think it's a powerful examination of another aspect of that day that hasn't been done to death. (Definitely don't watch it if you're not in a "safe" place mentally. And don't ask me how I thought it was appropriate viewing fare for two A.M. on a Friday-- my mind is a strange place.) I thought it was interesting-- you decide for yourself:

Frankenberry:

You may recall that there were more than a few people who jumped to their deaths that day, but the media really shied away from showing them repeatedly like they showed the planes hitting the buildings. My recollection is that at the time psychologists said it was a relatively natural reaction for people to want to control their own deaths rather than deal with the knowledge that death was coming and not doing anything about it.
I can only assume the media doesn't show the images because they are the aspects of individual death, and they don't like that in general. Furthermore, it freaks a lot of people out that someone would choose such a terrible end (not that their alternative was better).
Oh, and I don't care if you post this, just commenting.
