I'd like to announce a wonderful new addition to our household-- an antique Steinway upright grand piano!!! It was built in 1908, and has most of the original action and all of the original ivory keys!!!!!!
Hubby found it in the paper for a song-- $250!! I had my technician give it a once-over today and he was amazed. When I originally checked it out I was fairly sure it was a steal, but the action was so slow on the rebound that I was a little unnerved. However, when Tom checked it out he added a little solvent/lubricant, and away it went!!
The sound is gorgeous and the soundboard is nearly pristine, owing to the fact that the owner, a lovely not-so-little old lady (I swear to God, before she aged she must have been 6'5"!) kept it in a controlled-climate downstairs room and had it serviced regularly. Eventually I'll have to have the action overhauled, but Tom said he thinks it'll be fine without that for a few years, depending on how it turns out after he cleans it up and tunes it.
I can't wait to get it home!! Called the movers this afternoon and hopefully we'll get it here in the next two weeks. Aaaaah.
